I just did a complete maps update from the Garmin website and it worked flawlessly. I tried and tried to do it via Wine but I got stuck as you did. Hi I've just bought the Garmin - it is taking hours to update maps. I stopped it a couple of times blaming he computer for running slow but now I'm not so sure it is the computer. Some of the map updates are very large and will be slow on a slower connection, plus there may be others downloading at the same time.Time doesn't matter as long as you eventually get the whole update ok. And when the gps is plugged in via usb it does as a matter of fact show up as .wine/dosdevices/h: But the communicator plugin does not recognize it. I have tried google and the search function in this forum, but all solutions seem to recommend windows in virtualbox, which I would rather avoid.
After doing so, simply connect the device to the computer and set the Nuvi into 'Mass Storage' mode.
To do so, open the Nuvi's 'Setup' menu and pick the 'Interface' section.
I think the "bottleneck" is your internet connection.
I may be wrong but I believe it's managed download so OP can quit downloading at anytime and continue to get the rest of it later at his convenience. I'm not sure how much you will get but it's more than giving it away, unless you wanted to give it to a friend or relative. Check your local retailers, as well as online stores. Check the bigger stores, and check the specialty shops.
